Tory: CPC doesn't deserve title

The nickname Tory has had a long and distinguished history in conservative politics in the British Commonwealth. There have been many Tories who, while big 'C' conservative, I have admired. There is nothing resembling the respectable 'Tory' in Harper's Conservative Party of Canada. Its core is based in other hard right parties that merged to form CPC. A True Tory is not discriminatory like Harper's gang has proven itself to be. I believe we should not dignify CPC and besmirch 'real' ideological Tories like Scott Brison by calling them Tories. Perhaps we should steal the term away: Liberal Tory could apply to the more conservative wing of our Liberal family. A few candidates and MPs come to mind, actually.

We need to find a new, more suitable nickname for the Conservative Party of Canada. They do not deserve to be called Tories.

Liberals, let's change the subject

I can just imagine all those CPC wankers having a laugh-fest at our ripping each other to shreds over the Middle East. So, I'd like to propose to this extended Liberal family that we change the subject and re-focus on fighting over whose candidate is the best - not worst - and focus on Canada instead of points East.

With this in mind, I'll suggest a trip to Shoshanna's blog where she captures what we all knew about KD all along.

The Price of an Orchard Endorsement

The rumour is that David Orchard will endorse Stéphane Dion. What has the professor promised the farmer? Understandably, the Orchard group has been calling for a seat for DO. Logically, Mr. Orchard would run in Saskatchewan - it's not like he'd be challenging any incumbents. But alas, no.

Orchard wants a seat alright. In QUEBEC. How is M. Dion going to work this? Replace Mme Robillard with David Orchard in Westmount-Ville-Marie? Dr. Patry in Pierrefonds-Dollard? Or will he be banished to the Liberal wasteland known as the regions and left to fend for himself?

As I said on Cherniak's blog, if M. Dion sticks him in my riding we'll have a field day running him out of the province. Some were encouraging Orchard to settle for a BC seat - he should take their advice.

Dryden Scores at Montreal Outgames

Ken Dryden was warmly received at Montreal's Outgames this past Thursday. Mr. Dryden was asked to present the medals for the Men's and Women's Track and Field at the Centre Athlétique Claude-Robillard and, of course, he was happy to oblige. What an amazing buzz.

And while a blogger was quick to scandalise with the Yankee-Burger Gate, I can certainly attest to the fact that he loves Canadian smoked meat. As usual, he was treated like royalty at Schwartz's Deli on The Main at lunch.

Later in the day Mr. Dryden dropped the puck for the Competitive Men's Hockey Semi-Finals at Aréna Saint-Michel and watched the game with another former NHL-er. The future Prime Minister of Canada was quite a hit with the crowds and French and English-language Canadian and US media.

Way to go, Ken!

Happy Lughnasadh!

For those who celebrate the old ways, happy first harvest! May your corn grow high and your tables and cups runneth over! Eat, drink and be merry. Dance nekkid around the bonfire and above all be grateful for the relative peace we enjoy.

And the wheel of the year grinds on....
