Iggy Youth Sinks to New Low

I was not terribly surprised to see that anti-Anglo sentiment is alive and well in the booing Quebec Iggy Youth. Alexandre Plante of Fuddle Duddle posted the following remark at Views from the Water Edge:

It is supported by most Quebec Liberals. Only a handful of angry anglos are against it. The type of Anglos that haven't evolved since the 1950-1960s. The ones that caused the separatist movement to erupt.
Now suppose we replace 'anglo' with some other ethnic/religious or linguistic group. It's interesting that among certain people, the last bastion of socially acceptable ethnic slurs are those directed at English-speaking Quebecers. With inflammatory remarks like that, I'm wondering if it will be Iggy campaign propaganda in my mailbox tomorrow or something slightly more sinister....

I thought they reached an all time low when IggyNation blogged about a girl's crush on Iggy.

You saw my post about that James? :)

Seriously though, I thought the Ignatieff youth in Quebec never left rock bottom - meaning they always resided at the ultimate low. Their behaviour speaks to this assertion: booing candidates in Montreal, attacking other candidates on a personal level, etc.

But who could have expected more from them? I mean, look at the MP's who are directing them...

The Quebec Iggy Youth has been a bit worse than in other provinces, though I did think that adolescent crush publicised by the national Ignatieff capaign was truly odd.

I think it is a positive sign that le jeune M. Plante saw the errors of his thinking and deleted the comment on Views' blog. However, his comments tell me that there is genuine reason to be concerned about this resolution given the fact that certain members of Mr. Ignatieff's campaign have raised the linguistic/ethnic spectre.

I do think it's important for the Ignatieff campaign to respond to the anglo/allo concerns raised in my previous posts - now more than ever, and particularly since his campaign is the only one on the record as endorsing this resoltion.

It also wouldn't be out of line to request an apology from IggyNationYouth.

A few things:

1. You certainly aren't obligated to frequent So, if you have a problem about linking to an article published by a campus newspaper, go back to your preferred candidate's website and smile or something.

2. Antonio is certainly entitled to his own opinions, and you'd be foolish to think that he speaks for all and every ignatieff supporter who happens to be a youth.

3. He uses the term Anglos all the time. All the time. Have you even met the guy? If not, you may want to give him a phone call and chat baout it personally instead of bitching and dramatizing it.

A little hyper-sensitive, eh?

I mean, do you really have a heart attack during the daily show or ricker mercer's report? Relax...

Lastly, you know you're being a bit ridiculous by criticizing Brian for linking to a well-written piece about Ignatieff in a campus paper. Sure, you may disagree with the style, but feel free to do one of two things. Write your own crush piece about your man, or send comments to the author.

Maybe she can learn a few tips from the professionals, like yourselves.

Good luck in two weeks. Hopefully, though, you can put your petty squabblings behind you so we can reunite our party. The last thing we need is more infighting.

Here Here Matt.

We need a united party and stuff like this simply serves to tear us apart.

Lets not lose sight of this one simple face...WE'RE ALL LIBERALS.

Matt, I do know Antonio. And my post was about Alex's slur about Angry Anglos, not about Antonio. You will not have a united Liberal Party when certain linguistic groups are being targetted, as Alex did.

You should be a bit more thorough before writing a mini-rant like that.
